Szeged

Szeged is a city in southern Hungary on the Tisza River, near the Serbian and Romanian borders. It is the regional center of the Southern Great Plain.

Votive Church of Szeged: A twin-spired Romanesque Revival cathedral on Szeged’s Dóm Square, completed in 1930. The city’s best-known landmark anchors its central ceremonial square.

Szeged Open-Air Festival: An annual summer performing-arts festival held chiefly in Dóm Square, established in 1931. The city turns its cathedral square into a large outdoor stage.
Szeged Reconstruction: The late nineteenth-century rebuilding of Szeged after the 1879 flood, supported by international aid. The rebuilding produced broad boulevards and much of the city center’s present architecture.
