Tablet computer

A portable computer whose touchscreen is its primary input, typically larger than a smartphone and used without a permanently attached keyboard.

Capacitive touchscreen: A touch-sensitive display that detects changes in an electrostatic field caused by a conductive object, usually a finger. It enables direct finger input across the tablet’s display.
Personal computer: A general-purpose computer designed for use by one person at a time. A tablet is a personal computer built around a portable, touch-first form.
Digital art: Art created or presented using digital technology. Large touch displays and pressure-sensitive pens support drawing directly on tablets.
2-in-1 PC: A personal computer designed to function as both a laptop and a tablet, often through a detachable or folding keyboard. A 2-in-1 adds laptop-style input while retaining a tablet mode.
Multi-touch: An input technique that detects and interprets two or more touch points at once. Pinch, rotate, and other gestures let tablets combine several touch points into one command.
Smartphone: A mobile phone with an operating system capable of running applications and providing internet access. Tablets share smartphone software and components but usually have larger displays and no calling-first design.
E-book: A book-length text distributed in digital form for reading on an electronic device. A tablet can serve as a portable reader with adjustable text and lighting.
E-reader: A portable electronic device designed primarily for reading digital books and periodicals. Dedicated e-readers favor long-form reading and often use reflective displays instead of tablet-style screens.
Stylus: A pen-shaped input device used to interact with a touchscreen or digitizer. A stylus adds precise pointing and handwriting beyond finger input.
Laptop: A portable computer with an integrated display, keyboard, and pointing device. Laptops make a permanently attached keyboard central; tablets generally do not.
