Tahirid dynasty

The Tahirid dynasty was an Iranian dynasty that governed Khorasan for the Abbasid caliphs from 821 to 873, exercising substantial regional autonomy while acknowledging caliphal authority.

Tahir ibn Husayn: An Iranian general who helped the Abbasid al-Ma'mun defeat his brother al-Amin and founded the Tahirid family's political prominence. His military victories and appointment to Khorasan established the family's rule.
Abbasid Caliphate: A caliphate ruled by the Abbasid dynasty from 750 to 1258, centered chiefly in Iraq. The Tahirids held Khorasan as governors within this larger state.
