Taihang Mountains

The Taihang Mountains are a north–south mountain range in northern China, forming a natural divide between the Loess Plateau to the west and the North China Plain to the east.

North China Plain: A broad, low-lying plain in eastern China, built largely from sediment carried by the Yellow River and other rivers. The range's eastern slopes descend toward this densely populated plain.
Taihangshan Piedmont Fault: A major fault zone along the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, marking a boundary between highlands and plain. Its faulting helped establish the sharp eastern edge of the range.
Shijiazhuang–Taiyuan Railway: A railway linking Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province with Taiyuan in Shanxi Province across the Taihang region. It provides a modern east–west passage through difficult mountain terrain.
Wutai Mountain: A Buddhist sacred mountain in Shanxi Province, known for its temples and five flat-topped peaks. It is a major landmark in the northern Taihang region.
Loess Plateau: An upland region of north-central China covered by thick deposits of windblown silt called loess. The Taihang Mountains form the plateau's eastern boundary.
Taihangshan Orogen: A Paleozoic mountain belt formed through tectonic convergence along the western margin of the North China Craton. This older mountain-building episode shaped the region's deep geological framework.
Jingxing Pass: A historic mountain pass in Hebei Province connecting the Taihang uplands with the North China Plain. This corridor shows how traffic crossed the range before modern tunnels and railways.
Mount Cangyan: A scenic mountain in Hebei Province, famous for its cliffside temples and stone bridges. Its built heritage occupies the rugged eastern Taihang landscape.
Yellow River: China's second-longest river, flowing across the Loess Plateau before reaching the North China Plain. Its sediment helped build the plain that borders the range to the east.
Taihang Mountains Fault-Block Scarp: A steep escarpment along the eastern Taihang Mountains associated with uplift and faulting. It is the most visible expression of the range's structural boundary with the plain.
