Taitung County

A county on Taiwan’s southeastern coast, spanning part of the main island and including Green Island and Orchid Island. Its territory has Taiwan’s largest area among counties and cities.

Taiwan: An island in East Asia governed by the Republic of China, with a mountainous interior and densely populated western plains. Taitung County occupies the island’s southeastern edge.
East Rift Valley: A long agricultural valley in eastern Taiwan between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. Its southern section runs through Taitung County’s inland corridor.

Coastal Mountain Range: A mountain range along Taiwan’s eastern coast, separating the East Rift Valley from the Pacific shore. It forms a major barrier and landform along the county’s eastern side.
Taitung railway station: The principal railway station serving Taitung City and the eastern Taiwan rail network. Rail is a key link between the county and Taiwan’s other regions.
Japanese rule of Taiwan: The period from 1895 to 1945 when Japan governed Taiwan as a colony. Japanese rule reshaped administration, infrastructure, and settlement in the Taitung region.
Pingtung County: A county occupying the southernmost part of Taiwan’s main island. It borders Taitung County to the south and west across mountainous terrain.
