Tanis

Tanis was an ancient Egyptian city in the northeastern Nile Delta and a royal residence during the Third Intermediate Period. Its ruins include major temples and royal tombs.

Tomb of Psusennes I: A richly furnished royal tomb discovered intact at Tanis in 1940. Its discovery beneath the temple precinct made Tanis famous for royal burials.
Third Intermediate Period of Egypt: A period of divided political authority in Egypt, conventionally dated about 1070–664 BCE. Tanis rose as a royal residence during this era of competing regional powers.
