Tantalum carbide

Tantalum carbide is a refractory ceramic compound of tantalum and carbon, notable for extreme hardness, high melting temperature, and use in cutting tools and heat-resistant materials.

Transition-metal carbide: A compound formed between carbon and a transition metal, often combining high hardness with electrical and thermal conductivity. Tantalum carbide belongs to this family of hard, refractory compounds.
