Tapestry

A woven textile in which colored weft yarns create pictorial or patterned designs, often concealing the warp. Its image is formed during weaving rather than printed or embroidered afterward.

Weft-faced weaving: A weaving structure in which weft yarns largely cover the warp on the fabric surface. Tapestry imagery depends on colored wefts covering the supporting warp.
Coptic textiles: Textiles made in Egypt during the late Roman, Byzantine, and early Islamic periods, often with woven decoration. Surviving examples show early textile techniques and figural motifs related to tapestry traditions.
Bayeux Tapestry: An embroidered linen cloth depicting the Norman Conquest of England and events surrounding it. Its narrative use illustrates how a textile can recount political and military history.
Embroidery: The decoration of fabric by stitching thread through an existing ground cloth. Embroidery adds stitches to finished cloth, whereas tapestry forms its image through weaving.
