Textile manufacturing

Textile manufacturing is the industrial production of fibers, yarns, fabrics, and finished textile products through processes such as spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, and finishing.

Fiber processing: The preparation of natural or manufactured fibers for conversion into yarn or nonwoven materials. Cleaning, opening, and aligning fibers prepares them for later production stages.
Textile fiber: A natural or manufactured material whose length and properties make it suitable for textile use. Fibers are the primary raw material from which most yarns and fabrics are made.
Apparel industry: The business of designing, producing, and selling clothing and related accessories. Clothing is a major destination for fabrics and other outputs of textile production.
Industrial Revolution: The transition to mechanized production and new energy systems that began in Britain in the eighteenth century. Mechanized textile production was among the earliest drivers of industrialization.
Spinning (textiles): The process of drawing and twisting staple fibers into continuous yarn. Spinning converts prepared fibers into yarn used by fabric-forming processes.
Cotton: A soft natural seed fiber widely used to make yarn, fabric, and other products. Cotton illustrates how a major natural fiber enters industrial textile production.
Technical textile: A textile designed primarily for functional performance rather than aesthetic or domestic use. Industrial production also supplies materials engineered for specialized functions.
Cotton mill: A factory where cotton is processed or spun into yarn and often made into cloth. Cotton mills concentrated machinery and workers into a new factory production system.
Weaving: The interlacing of lengthwise warp yarns and crosswise weft yarns to form fabric. Weaving is a principal method for turning yarn into cloth.
Wool: The crimped animal fiber obtained chiefly from sheep and used in yarns and textiles. Wool requires fiber preparation suited to its scales, crimp, and staple length.
