The Pearl Island

The Pearl Island is an artificial island development off Doha, Qatar, built around marinas, residences, hotels, and retail districts.

Land reclamation: The creation of usable land by filling or enclosing areas of water. Land reclamation created the island’s developable ground in the Gulf.
Residential real estate: Property developed for people to occupy as homes. Apartments and villas make permanent residence a central use of the island.
United Development Company: A Qatari shareholding company that develops and operates major real-estate and infrastructure projects. The company initiated and developed The Pearl Island project.
Coastal urbanization: The growth of cities and built environments along coastlines. The island extends Doha’s urban development into the Gulf’s coastal waters.
Doha: The capital and largest city of Qatar, on the Persian Gulf coast. The island lies offshore from Doha and forms part of its urban expansion.
Marina: A sheltered harbor with facilities for yachts and other recreational boats. Marinas organize much of the island’s waterfront life and leisure activity.

Tourism in Qatar: Travel to Qatar for leisure, culture, business, and other purposes. Hotels and waterfront attractions position the island within Qatar’s visitor economy.
