The Wedding

A 1901 play by Stanisław Wyspiański in which a wedding gathering in rural Poland becomes an allegory of national division, political paralysis, and unrealized independence.

The Strawman: A straw figure from Polish harvest customs that appears as a supernatural messenger in Wyspiański’s play. His golden horn sets the guests’ political mission in motion.
