Theropoda

Theropoda is a major dinosaur group that includes modern birds and extinct forms such as Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus. Most theropods walked on two legs, though their body sizes, diets, and lifestyles varied widely.

Dinosaur: A member of Dinosauria, a group of reptiles that originated during the Triassic Period and includes birds. Theropoda is one major branch of Dinosauria.
Bipedalism: Locomotion using two legs for support and movement. Most theropods held their bodies above the hind limbs and moved bipedally.
Tyrannosaurus: A genus of giant tyrannosaurid theropods from Late Cretaceous western North America. Tyrannosaurus exemplifies the enormous-bodied predatory theropods of the latest Cretaceous.
Sauropodomorpha: A dinosaur group that includes long-necked sauropods and their early relatives. Unlike most theropods, many sauropodomorphs evolved massive bodies and herbivorous diets.
Origin of birds: The evolutionary history through which birds arose from theropod dinosaurs. The transition is well supported, but the timing and sequence of early bird traits remain debated.
Saurischia: One of the two traditional major dinosaur groups, containing theropods and sauropodomorphs. Theropoda belongs to Saurischia under the traditional classification.
Furcula: A paired clavicle fused into a fork-shaped bone, present in birds and many theropods. Its presence in theropods documents a skeletal feature inherited by birds.
Allosaurus: A genus of large allosaurid theropods from the Late Jurassic of North America and elsewhere. Allosaurus represents a major large-bodied predator that lived well before Tyrannosaurus.
Ornithischia: One of the two traditional major dinosaur groups, including ceratopsians, stegosaurs, and hadrosaurs. Its members form the other major dinosaur branch in traditional classifications.
Dinosaur coloration: The study and reconstruction of colors and patterns in extinct dinosaurs. Pigment-bearing fossils have revealed some theropod colors, while most species remain unknown.
