Thimphu

Thimphu is Bhutan’s capital and largest city, situated in the Wang Chhu valley in western Bhutan. It is the country’s political and administrative center.

Jigme Dorji Wangchuck: Jigme Dorji Wangchuck was Bhutan’s third king, reigning from 1952 to 1972 and leading major reforms. His reforms strengthened Thimphu’s place in a modernizing state.
Punakha Dzong: Punakha Dzong is a historic fortress-monastery at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. It is a major national landmark beyond the capital’s urban center.
Himalayas: The Himalayas are a mountain range spanning South Asia and Tibet. The range shapes Thimphu’s high-altitude setting and routes to the city.
Dechen Phodrang Monastery: Dechen Phodrang is a Buddhist monastery and monastic school in Thimphu. It shows how religious education remains part of the capital’s urban life.
