Thing (assembly)

A public assembly in Norse society where free people handled law, disputes, and political decisions. It combined a court, a law-speaking forum, and a venue for collective decisions.

Thing system: The network of assemblies that organized legal and political life in Norse communities. Local and regional things formed a connected system of public decision-making.
