Third Anglo-Burmese War

The brief 1885 war in which Britain invaded the Konbaung Kingdom of Burma, captured Mandalay, and completed its conquest and annexation.

British expedition to Upper Burma: The 1885 British military campaign that advanced from Lower Burma to Mandalay and forced King Thibaw's surrender. Its rapid river advance and capture of Mandalay formed the war's decisive campaign.
Konbaung dynasty: The last ruling dynasty of Burma, which governed from 1752 until the British annexation of 1885. The war destroyed the dynasty's kingdom and ended its sovereignty.
British Burma: The colonial territory governed by Britain in Burma from the nineteenth century until independence in 1948. The annexation brought Upper Burma into a colonial administration already established in the south.
