Thomas Mann

Thomas Mann (1875–1955) was a German novelist and essayist whose fiction examined bourgeois life, artistic identity, illness, and political change.

Buddenbrooks: Thomas Mann’s 1901 novel traces the decline of a prosperous merchant family across four generations. This early novel established Mann’s account of bourgeois decline and earned him lasting recognition.
