Thomas P. Stafford

Thomas P. Stafford was an American astronaut and U.S. Air Force officer who commanded Apollo 10 and the 1975 Apollo–Soyuz Test Project.

Apollo 10: The 1969 mission that tested the Apollo lunar module in lunar orbit without landing on the Moon. Stafford commanded this full dress rehearsal for the first crewed lunar landing.
Orbital rendezvous: The process of matching the orbit and velocity of one spacecraft to approach another. Stafford’s Gemini and Apollo missions tested rendezvous techniques needed for lunar exploration.
Deke Slayton: A U.S. astronaut and NASA flight operations director who helped assign crews and manage human spaceflight. Slayton worked with Stafford on Apollo–Soyuz planning and crew coordination.
