Thonburi Kingdom

The Siamese kingdom ruled by Taksin from Thonburi between 1767 and 1782, after the Burmese destruction of Ayutthaya and before the founding of the Rattanakosin Kingdom.

Fall of Ayutthaya: The Burmese capture and destruction of Ayutthaya in 1767, ending the kingdom that had ruled much of Siam. Its destruction created the political crisis Taksin sought to overcome.
Battle of Bang Kung: A 1767 battle in which Taksin’s forces defeated a Burmese garrison at Bang Kung in present-day Samut Songkhram. The victory helped secure Taksin’s position in the lower Chao Phraya region.
Rattanakosin Kingdom: The Siamese kingdom established by Rama I in 1782, with its capital at Bangkok. It succeeded Thonburi and continued the restored Siamese monarchy.
