Thoroughbred

The Thoroughbred is a horse breed developed in England for racing. Its pedigrees trace to a small group of foundation sires.

Thoroughbred pedigree: A documented lineage tracing a Thoroughbred’s ancestry through successive generations. Pedigrees connect modern Thoroughbreds to the breed’s small group of foundation sires.
Byerley Turk: A late-seventeenth-century stallion traditionally counted among the three principal foundation sires of the Thoroughbred. His line is one of the three male lines traditionally traced from the breed’s foundation.

Godolphin Arabian: An early-eighteenth-century stallion traditionally counted among the three principal foundation sires of the Thoroughbred. His descendants helped establish the breed during its formative period.
