Tianjin

Tianjin is a major port city and directly administered municipality in northeastern China, near Beijing and the Bohai Sea. Its history and economy are closely tied to its river port and coastal trade.

Grand Canal of China: A vast network of waterways linking northern and southern China, built and expanded across successive dynasties. Its route through Tianjin connected the city to grain transport and inland commerce.
Port of Tianjin: A major seaport serving Tianjin and the surrounding region, with facilities centered on Tianjin Port in Binhai New Area. The port makes Tianjin a principal maritime gateway for Beijing and northern China.
Tianjin Eye: A giant Ferris wheel built above the Yongle Bridge over the Hai River in Tianjin. Its riverfront location makes it a recognizable symbol of contemporary Tianjin.

Five Great Avenues: A historic district in central Tianjin known for its early twentieth-century villas and eclectic architecture. The district preserves the urban fabric shaped by Tianjin’s foreign concessions.
Hebei: A province in northern China that surrounds Beijing and Tianjin and borders the Bohai Sea. Tianjin is geographically enclosed by Hebei apart from its coastline.
Tianjin Concessions: Foreign-administered districts established in Tianjin from the mid-nineteenth century into the early twentieth century. These districts reshaped the city’s architecture, administration, and international character.
Beijing–Tianjin Intercity Railway: A high-speed railway connecting Beijing and Tianjin, opened in 2008. It strengthens Tianjin’s close economic and commuting ties with the national capital.
