Tibetan Plateau

A vast, elevated region of Central Asia north of the Himalayas, spanning Tibet and parts of western China. Its exceptional elevation shapes regional climate, rivers, ecosystems, and human settlement.

Westerlies: Prevailing midlatitude winds that flow from west to east in both hemispheres. Their interaction with plateau topography influences Central Asian weather and precipitation.
Yellow River: A major northern Chinese river whose headwaters lie in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. Its source links plateau wetlands and grasslands to densely populated northern China.
