Tito Puente

Tito Puente (1923–2000) was an American percussionist, bandleader, and composer whose work helped shape mambo and Latin jazz.

Machito: Machito was a Cuban-born bandleader who helped establish Afro-Cuban jazz in New York. His orchestra’s recordings and performances helped shape the Afro-Cuban jazz scene Puente joined.
Timbales: Timbales are a pair of shallow, single-headed metal drums played with sticks, often used in Latin music. Puente was renowned for bringing the timbales to the front of the band’s sound.
