Tito–Stalin split

The 1948 rupture between Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito and the Soviet-led Communist movement, which left Yugoslavia outside the Cominform and independent of Moscow’s direction.

Josip Broz Tito: Yugoslav communist revolutionary and statesman who led Yugoslavia from 1943 until his death in 1980. His independent leadership brought him into conflict with Stalin.
Cominform: The Communist Information Bureau, founded in 1947 to coordinate several European communist parties. It issued the 1948 condemnation that formalized Yugoslavia’s break.
Non-Aligned Movement: An international movement of states that sought independence from the major Cold War power blocs. Yugoslavia later helped found a movement that reflected its independent foreign policy.
Sino-Soviet split: The political and ideological rupture between the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China during the Cold War. It was another major communist split, but between two powerful states rather than a Soviet satellite.
Stalinism: The political system and ideology associated with Joseph Stalin’s rule of the Soviet Union. Stalin’s insistence on Soviet control shaped the confrontation.
