Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison was an American novelist and editor whose fiction explores Black identity, history, memory, and community. She received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.

Beloved: Toni Morrison’s 1987 novel follows Sethe, a formerly enslaved woman haunted by the past and by a mysterious young woman. Its account of slavery, motherhood, and haunting became Morrison’s best-known novel.
Nonlinear narrative: A storytelling structure that presents events out of chronological order. Her novels use disrupted chronology to make the past active within the present.
Chloe Ardelia Wofford: Chloe Ardelia Wofford was the birth name of the writer known as Toni Morrison. Her pen name became the name under which she published and received international recognition.
