Knowra Toxodon Toxodon Toxodon is an extinct genus of large, hoofed South American mammals that lived from the Pliocene into the late Pleistocene. Its remains reveal a distinctive herbivore whose evolutionary relationships were long uncertain.
Notoungulata : An extinct order of hoofed mammals that evolved in South America and included a wide range of body forms. Toxodon belongs to this diverse South American mammal order.
Hypsodonty : A dental condition in which teeth have tall crowns suited to prolonged wear. Toxodon’s high-crowned cheek teeth suited it to abrasive plant foods.
