Treaty of London (1824)

The Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824 was an agreement that reorganized British and Dutch interests in Southeast Asia, defining spheres of influence and transferring territories between the powers.

Straits Settlements: A British colonial administrative unit comprising Penang, Singapore, and Malacca, later joined by other territories. The treaty placed Malacca under British control, linking it to Penang and Singapore in later administration.
Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1814: An agreement that restored many Dutch colonial possessions seized by Britain during the Napoleonic Wars. The 1824 agreement settled disputes left unresolved by this earlier restoration.
British occupation of the Dutch East Indies: British rule over Dutch possessions in the Indonesian archipelago during the Napoleonic era, especially from 1811 to 1816. The occupation created possession claims that the 1824 negotiations sought to resolve.
