Treaty of Pressburg

The 1805 peace treaty between France and Austria ended the War of the Third Coalition and imposed major territorial losses on Austria.

Confederation of the Rhine: A French-backed association of German states formed in 1806 after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire. The treaty’s territorial and political changes helped clear the way for this French-aligned confederation.
Territorial cession: The formal transfer of sovereignty over territory from one state to another. Pressburg imposed losses through explicit transfers of Habsburg lands.
