Treaty of Wallingford

The 1153 agreement that ended the English succession conflict between King Stephen and Henry of Anjou by recognizing Henry as Stephen’s heir.

Stephen of England: King of England from 1135 to 1154, whose contested succession led to civil war. He retained the crown under the agreement but accepted Henry as his heir.
Henry I of England: King of England from 1100 to 1135 and father of Matilda and Stephen’s predecessor. His death without a surviving legitimate son reopened the succession question.
Angevin Empire: The lands ruled by the Angevin dynasty across England and parts of France during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Henry’s succession brought England under the wider Angevin dynastic rule.
