Treeline

The upper elevation limit beyond which trees cannot grow as a continuous forest. Its position reflects environmental limits on tree growth and varies with climate, latitude, and terrain.

Alpine treeline: The boundary between continuous forest and treeless terrain in high mountains. It is the elevation-defined form of treeline.
Tree: A perennial woody plant with a self-supporting trunk and branching crown. Treeline concerns where trees can no longer form continuous forest.
