Anansi : A spider trickster in West African and Caribbean stories, known for wit, storytelling, and outsmarting stronger opponents. Anansi turns cleverness and storytelling into ways to challenge power.
Ritual inversion : A temporary reversal of social roles or norms within a ritualized setting. Trickster behavior resembles sanctioned moments when ordinary hierarchies are turned upside down.
Paul Radin : An American anthropologist known for collecting and interpreting Indigenous American oral traditions. Radin’s study of Winnebago narratives helped establish the modern comparative idea of the trickster.

Fool (stock character) : A literary or theatrical character whose folly, comic behavior, or apparent simplicity can reveal truths. The fool may expose social absurdities, but tricksters more actively manipulate rules and outcomes.
Loki : A shape-shifting figure in Norse mythology whose schemes bring both aid and danger to the gods. Loki’s shifting allegiance makes disruption consequential for the divine order.
