Tridecane

Tridecane is an unbranched alkane with 13 carbon atoms and the molecular formula C₁₃H₂₈. It is a colorless, combustible liquid at room temperature.

Molecular formula: A molecular formula gives the number of atoms of each element in a molecule. C₁₃H₂₈ records tridecane’s carbon and hydrogen counts.

Tetradecane: Tetradecane is a straight-chain alkane with 14 carbon atoms and formula C₁₄H₃₀. Its additional carbon atom illustrates how properties shift to the next longer homolog.
Constitutional isomer: Constitutional isomers have the same molecular formula but different atom-to-atom connectivity. Tridecane has many branched isomers with the same formula, C₁₃H₂₈.
Vapor pressure: Vapor pressure is the pressure exerted by a vapor in equilibrium with its condensed phase. It describes how readily liquid tridecane evaporates at a given temperature.
