Trollhätte Canal

A Swedish waterway linking Lake Vänern to the Kattegat through the Göta River. Its lock system bypasses the waterfalls at Trollhättan and forms part of the Göta Canal route.

Trollhättan locks: A sequence of locks at Trollhättan that raises and lowers vessels around the river’s waterfalls. They provide the canal’s defining passage around the Trollhättan falls.
Polhem Lock: An early, unfinished lock project at Trollhättan associated with inventor Christopher Polhem. It was an early attempt to pass vessels around the falls before the later canal systems.
Vänern–Götaland Railway: A railway corridor serving the region around Lake Vänern and western Sweden. Railways became an alternative to the canal for moving freight and passengers across the region.
