Truth value

A truth value indicates whether a proposition is true or false. In classical logic, the two values are true and false.

Proposition: A declarative statement that can be evaluated as true or false. Truth values are assigned to propositions rather than to questions or commands.
Negation: A logical operation that reverses a proposition's truth value in classical logic. Negation maps true to false and false to true in the two-valued system.
Propositional calculus: A formal system for reasoning with propositions and logical connectives. It studies valid inferences by tracking the truth values of formulas.
Many-valued logic: A family of logics with more than two truth values. It generalizes truth-value systems beyond the classical true–false pair.
Logical connective: An operator that combines or modifies propositions to form compound statements. Connectives determine how compound propositions inherit truth values from their parts.
Conjunction: A compound proposition that is true exactly when both component propositions are true. Its truth value depends on both inputs being true.
Boolean algebra: An algebraic system whose variables and operations follow the laws of classical logic. Its two-element form represents false and true as algebraic values.
Intuitionistic logic: A logic that interprets proof as central to truth and rejects unrestricted classical principles. Its treatment of propositions differs from classical truth-value assignments.
Truth table: A table listing a logical expression's value for every combination of input values. Truth tables make the evaluation of compound propositions explicit.
Disjunction: A compound proposition that is true when at least one component proposition is true. Its classical inclusive form is false only when both inputs are false.
