Truth

Truth is the property of statements or propositions that accurately represent how things are. It is distinguished from belief, justification, and usefulness, which do not by themselves make a statement true.

Proposition: A proposition is the content expressed by a declarative sentence, capable of being true or false. Truth is commonly treated as a property of propositions rather than of sentences themselves.
Coherence theory of truth: The coherence theory identifies truth with fitting consistently within a system of beliefs or propositions. It replaces direct matching with reality by consistency among claims.
Truth value: A truth value is the status assigned to a proposition, commonly true or false. Truth values let formal systems classify propositions and calculate with them.
Knowledge: Knowledge is a successful cognitive relation to information or facts, often analyzed as true belief with further conditions. Truth is widely treated as necessary for knowing a proposition.
Fact: A fact is a state of affairs that obtains or a piece of information regarded as objectively correct. Facts are often understood as what true propositions describe.
Pragmatic theory of truth: The pragmatic theory connects truth to practical success, inquiry, or what withstands sustained investigation. It emphasizes consequences and inquiry rather than correspondence alone.
Truth table: A truth table lists the truth values of a compound proposition for every assignment of values to its components. It makes the truth conditions of logical connectives explicit.
Justification: Justification is the support or reasons that make a belief rationally or evidentially acceptable. A belief can be justified yet false, showing that support and truth differ.
Reference: Reference is the relation by which a word or expression picks out an object, person, or kind. A statement’s subject must connect to what it is about for its truth to be assessed.
Deflationary theory of truth: Deflationary theories deny that truth names a substantial property beyond the role expressed by saying that a claim is true. It challenges the assumption that truth requires a deep explanatory nature.
