Turandot

Turandot is an opera by Giacomo Puccini, completed after his death by Franco Alfano and premiered in 1926. Its story centers on a princess who sets suitors three riddles.

Nessun dorma: An aria from the final act of Puccini’s Turandot, sung by Calaf as he awaits dawn. Calaf’s famous declaration turns the night before the final riddle into a solo of suspense and certainty.
Carlo Gozzi: An Italian playwright whose 1762 theatrical fable Turandot supplied the opera’s principal source. Gozzi’s play established the princess, riddles, and suitors that Puccini later adapted.
