Twelve Years' Truce

The Twelve Years' Truce was a 1609–1621 suspension of hostilities between the Dutch Republic and Spain during the Eighty Years' War. It recognized the Dutch Republic as an independent power for the duration of the agreement without settling the sovereignty dispute.

Eighty Years' War: A 1568–1648 conflict in which the Dutch provinces revolted against Spanish Habsburg rule. The truce temporarily interrupted this larger war of independence.
