Knowra Tyeb Mehta Tyeb Mehta Tyeb Mehta (1925–2009) was an Indian modernist painter whose stark, often anguished figures and forceful compositions made him a major figure in post-independence Indian art.
Celebration : A painting by Tyeb Mehta depicting figures in a celebratory dance, sold at auction for a record price for an Indian painting in 2002. Its vivid, compressed dancers contrast with the anguish in many of his other figures.
Diagonal line : A line that slopes between horizontal and vertical directions in a visual composition. Mehta used a strong diagonal to divide and destabilize pictorial space.
