Uele River

The Uele River flows west across northern Democratic Republic of the Congo and joins the Mbomou River to form the Ubangi River.

Ubangi River: A major Central African river formed by the Uele and Mbomou rivers, flowing southwest to the Congo River. The Uele ends at the confluence that begins this larger river.
Confluence: A place where two or more streams or rivers meet and continue as a single channel. The Uele’s junction with the Mbomou creates the Ubangi River.
Bondo, Democratic Republic of the Congo: A town in Bas-Uele Province in northern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bondo is a major settlement on the Uele River.
Aruwimi River: A major tributary of the Congo River in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is another large northern tributary in the country’s Congo drainage network.
Mbomou River: A river in Central Africa that joins the Uele River to form the Ubangi River. Its meeting with the Uele defines the river’s downstream endpoint.
River basin: An area of land drained by a river and its tributaries. The Uele carries runoff from part of the Congo River basin.
Bas-Uele Province: A province in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, named for the Uele River. The river gives this province its name and crosses its landscape.
Chari River: The principal river flowing into Lake Chad from the Central African Republic and neighboring regions. It drains toward Lake Chad rather than joining the Congo system like the Uele.
Congo River: A major African river whose basin spans much of central Africa and drains into the Atlantic Ocean. The Uele belongs to the wider drainage system that reaches the Congo.
Tropical rainforest climate: A climate with high temperatures and substantial rainfall throughout the year. Rainfall in the Uele’s tropical watershed sustains its flow.
