Ugandan Bush War

The Ugandan Bush War was a 1981–1986 insurgency in which Yoweri Museveni’s National Resistance Army fought the government of Milton Obote and later Tito Okello, ultimately taking power.

National Resistance Army: The insurgent force led by Yoweri Museveni that captured Kampala in 1986 and became Uganda’s national army. Its guerrilla campaign was the insurgency’s main military instrument.
Ugandan general election, 1980: A disputed Ugandan election in December 1980 that returned Milton Obote’s Uganda People’s Congress to power. Museveni rejected the result and launched an armed struggle against Obote’s government.
Yoweri Museveni: A Ugandan politician who led the National Resistance Army to power in 1986 and became president. He organized the insurgency and became its political and military leader.
