Ugandan independence

Ugandan independence was the end of British rule and establishment of Uganda as a sovereign state on 9 October 1962.

Uganda Protectorate: The British-administered territory that preceded the independent state of Uganda. Its institutions and boundaries formed the colonial framework independence replaced.
Milton Obote: A Ugandan political leader who became the country’s first prime minister at independence. He led the government that took office as British rule ended.
Ugandan constitutional history: The development of Uganda’s constitutional arrangements from colonial administration through independence and later political change. The independence settlement was one stage in a longer constitutional transformation.
Buganda crisis: A political conflict between Uganda’s central government and Buganda’s kingdom over constitutional authority and autonomy. The tensions embedded in the independence settlement soon became a direct state crisis.
