Ukrainian literature

Ukrainian literature is the body of literary works written in Ukrainian across historical periods and communities, shaped by changing political borders, language policies, and cultural traditions.

Peresopnytsia Gospel: A sixteenth-century translation of the Gospels into a Ukrainian literary vernacular, notable for its manuscript and illustrations. It shows an early effort to render sacred writing in a language close to Ukrainian speech.
Lesya Ukrainka: A Ukrainian poet, playwright, and translator whose work engaged classical subjects, political struggle, and personal freedom. Her dramas and poetry broadened the language’s range beyond the lyrical nationalism associated with Shevchenko.
