Ulexite

Ulexite is a hydrated sodium-calcium borate mineral that commonly forms silky, fibrous aggregates. Closely packed fibers can transmit an image from one surface to another by guiding light along their lengths.

Total internal reflection: The reflection of light back into a material when it reaches a boundary above the critical angle. Repeated internal reflection confines light within ulexite’s parallel fibers.
Borate minerals: Minerals whose structures contain boron-oxygen groups. Ulexite belongs to this mineral family and contains borate groups in its composition.
