Ulm campaign

The 1805 French campaign that maneuvered an Austrian army into isolation around Ulm and compelled its surrender before the Battle of Austerlitz.

Grande Armée: The French imperial army created under Napoleon, which fought across Europe from 1805 to 1815. Its corps advanced on separate routes, then converged to cut Mack’s army off from the east.
War of the Third Coalition: A European war fought from 1805 to 1806 between Napoleonic France and a coalition led by Austria, Russia, and Britain. Austria’s entry into this war brought Mack’s army into Bavaria and prompted Napoleon’s counter-maneuver.
Battle of Austerlitz: A decisive French victory over Austrian and Russian armies on 2 December 1805. After Ulm, Napoleon moved east and defeated the coalition’s principal field army at Austerlitz.
