UNESCO

UNESCO is a United Nations specialized agency that promotes international cooperation in education, science, culture, communication, and information. It sets standards, supports programs, and coordinates international initiatives in these fields.

World Heritage Convention: An international treaty adopted in 1972 to protect cultural and natural heritage of outstanding universal value. It established the framework behind UNESCO’s best-known heritage program.
UNESCO General Conference: UNESCO’s governing body, in which member states meet to set policy and approve the organization’s program and budget. It provides the main forum where member states decide UNESCO’s direction.

Jaime Torres Bodet: A Mexican poet, diplomat, and politician who served as UNESCO’s Director-General from 1948 to 1952. He led the organization during its early expansion and postwar reconstruction work.
Convention against Discrimination in Education: A 1960 UNESCO treaty that prohibits discrimination in education and promotes equal educational opportunity. It gives UNESCO’s education principles a binding international form.
