Union of South Africa

The Union of South Africa was a self-governing dominion of the British Empire from 1910 to 1961, formed by joining four southern African colonies and replaced by a republic.

Second Boer War: A war fought from 1899 to 1902 between the British Empire and the Boer republics of southern Africa. British victory brought the Boer republics under imperial rule, making union negotiations possible.
South Africa Act 1909: A British statute that established the constitution and institutions of the Union of South Africa. It set the Union's powers, parliament, provincial structure, and racial franchise rules.
