United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara

The United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) is a peacekeeping mission established in 1991 to monitor the ceasefire and organize a referendum on the territory’s status.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 690: A 1991 Security Council resolution that established MINURSO and approved the settlement plan for Western Sahara. It created MINURSO and authorized its initial work under the settlement plan.
