United Russia

United Russia is a Russian political party founded in 2001. It has been the country’s dominant governing party for much of the twenty-first century.

Unity: A Russian political party founded in 1999 that supported Vladimir Putin and merged into United Russia. Unity supplied one of the two principal organizations that merged to create the party.
Dominant-party system: A political system in which one party repeatedly wins elections and governs while opposition parties remain legal. United Russia’s long-running electoral advantage is a central example of this system.
