Uruguayan Civil War

The Uruguayan Civil War was a conflict between the Blanco and Colorado factions from 1839 to 1851, entangled with Argentine and Brazilian intervention and the wider Platine region.

Blanco Party: A Uruguayan political faction, later organized as the National Party, traditionally associated with rural interests. Its forces fought the Colorados and governed much of Uruguay during the conflict.
Uruguayan independence: Uruguay’s emergence as an independent state in 1828 after conflict among Brazil, Argentina, and local forces. The new state’s unsettled borders and politics left room for neighboring powers to intervene.
