Usenet is a worldwide distributed discussion system in which users exchange messages in topic-based newsgroups through news servers. Its decentralized design lets servers replicate and relay posts without a single central host.

Network News Transfer Protocol: Network News Transfer Protocol is the application protocol used to distribute and access Usenet articles. NNTP carries articles between news servers and between servers and user software.
Tom Truscott: Tom Truscott is an American computer scientist who helped create Usenet. Truscott and Jim Ellis designed the system that became Usenet in 1979.
