Utah Territory

Utah Territory was an organized United States territory created in 1850, covering much of the Great Basin before later boundary reductions and statehood.

Compromise of 1850: A package of laws admitting California as a free state and organizing territories amid conflict over slavery. The compromise organized Utah Territory as part of Congress’s response to sectional conflict.
Territorial government of Utah: The federally established executive, legislative, and judicial institutions that governed Utah before statehood. These institutions translated the Organic Act into administration across the territory.
